  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs At room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sourdough discard At room temperature

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Optional Add-ins
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Optional for extra chocolate flavor

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, let it cool for a few minutes.

  1. Add the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract to the melted butter and stir until well combined.
  2. Mix in the sourdough discard until smooth.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet mixture and stir just until combined.
  4. If desired, fold in chocolate chips.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
  2. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with some moist crumbs.
  3. Let the brownies cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. Cut into squares and enjoy!

Notes

Allow brownies to cool completely for easier cutting. Experiment with add-ins like nuts or dried fruit.
