- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup rice
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional spices: paprika, Italian seasoning
- Water or broth as needed
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground meat with the chopped onions and minced garlic until the meat is no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
- Add rice, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce to the skillet, stirring to combine.
- Chop cabbage into small pieces. Layer half the chopped cabbage in the slow cooker.
- Add the meat mixture on top of the cabbage, then layer the remaining chopped cabbage.
- Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices. Pour a bit of water or broth on top to maintain moisture.
- Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or until cabbage is tender.
- Gently stir before serving and enjoy!
Notes
For added depth of flavor, sauté meat and onions before adding to the slow cooker. You can customize with different meats or a vegetarian option like lentils.
