Description

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined, tails on
  • 1 cup tempura flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup cold water
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Soy sauce or dipping sauce of choice

Instructions

  1. Pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel.
  2. In a bowl, mix cold water, egg, and tempura flour gently until the batter is lumpy.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Dip each shrimp in the batter and carefully place them in the hot oil.
  5. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes, then transfer to a plate lined with paper towels.
  6. Repeat until all the shrimp are cooked.
  7. Serve hot with soy sauce or a dipping sauce of your choice.

Notes

For perfect tempura, keep the batter cold and do not overcrowd the pot while frying.
