Rich, fudgy homemade brownies with a perfect chewy texture and intense chocolate flavor. These brownies are made from scratch with simple ingredients and deliver bakery-quality results every time.

- 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (43g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon espresso powder (optional)
- 3/4 cup (170g) unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons (28ml) oil (canola, vegetable, or coconut)
- 1 and 1/3 cups (265g) granulated sugar, divided
- 2 large eggs
- 1 large egg yolk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (optional but recommended)
- 3/4 cup (128g) chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper and spray lightly with non-stick baking spray.
- In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, salt, cocoa powder, and espresso powder. Set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, combine butter, oil, and 1/3 cup of sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring frequently, until butter is completely melted. Remove from heat.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine eggs, egg yolk, vanilla, and remaining sugar. Whisk until well combined, about 30 seconds.
- Slowly pour the warm butter mixture into the egg mixture, adding gradually while whisking constantly until completely combined.
- Add dry ingredients and chocolate chips, using a rubber spatula to stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Scrape batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 28-30 minutes or until edges are firm and top is shiny and slightly cracked.
- Cool completely on a cooling rack before slicing.

- Do not overmix the batter to avoid cakey brownies
- Espresso powder enhances chocolate flavor but can be omitted if you don’t like coffee
- Cool completely before cutting for clean slices
- Store covered at room temperature for up to 5 days
