Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the wet ingredients: eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla, and mix until smooth.
- Carefully stir in the boiling water until combined.
- Pour the batter evenly into two greased round cake pans.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes.
- Once baked, cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- For the caramel sauce, combine 1 cup sugar and ¼ cup water in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until golden.
- Gradually add ½ cup heavy cream while stirring, let cool slightly before using.
- To serve, layer the cake with caramel sauce and cover with chocolate frosting.
- Decorate with more caramel and chocolate shavings if desired.
Notes
For added flavor, consider using dark chocolate cocoa powder or adding a pinch of sea salt to the caramel sauce.
