- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup milk
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups milk (for custard)
- ½ cup sugar (for custard)
- 2 large egg yolks
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 4 oz chocolate, melted (for frosting)
- ½ cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
- 2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a cupcake pan with liners.
- Cream butter and sugar until fluffy, then add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
- Combine dry ingredients in another bowl and add gradually to the butter mixture, alternating with milk.
- Mix in vanilla extract and fill cupcake liners with batter.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean; allow to cool.
- Prepare custard by heating 2 cups of milk, ½ cup sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla together.
- In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks and cornstarch, then temper with hot milk mixture.
- Cook custard until thickened, let cool completely.
- Cut a small hole in the center of each cooled cupcake and fill with custard.
- Melt chocolate and mix with ½ cup softened butter and 2 cups powdered sugar for frosting.
- Top each cupcake with chocolate frosting.
Notes
Allow cupcakes to cool completely before filling to prevent custard from melting or leaking.
